I am currently a private tutor working with students from a wide range of age groups and skill levels, specializing in English, French and Music. I am a Native English speaker with several qualifications in English, from the SAT to the IELTS, and also hold outstanding results in the IGCSEs and GCE A-Levels. I moved to Hong Kong from my home country of Canada, where I was exposed to a bilingual English-French environment at school, in my neighborhood and within my mixed-race family. In Hong Kong, I was offered the opportunity to enter a prestigious local university through the Early Admissions Scheme, an initiative offered by the government to grant places early to young students with outstanding academic results.
Besides that, I also have attained the 'Diplôme en Langue Française', a proficiency qualification in the French Language. As for my experience in music, I am certified as a violin teacher and have successfully trained students to 'Distinction' level in widely-recognized music exams. I teach more informally the guitar, piano and ukelele.
I am very much used to preparing lesson materials and homework for my lessons, and all of my students can expect a learning process that extends beyond the classroom, with support and out-of-class learning provided. I have special expertise in teaching phonics and reading to younger children, having taught with a variety of methods from Jolly Phonics to Oxford Read and Write Inc. In addition to that, I also have prepared students for the Cambridge ESOL exams (Starters, Movers, Flyers) as well as a variety of other exams from the IGCSE to the HKDSE. For mature students, I have prepared a large range of my own material for teaching mostly Conversational English and Business English. I also tailor-make materials according to the individual needs of each client. In teaching pronunciation to adult students who would like to improve their accent, I often use IPA to improve the pronunciation of individual words, otherwise integrating the principles of phonics into each class. I have also assisted clients with writing projects ranging from copywriting to business proposals.
